Have you ever wondered how plants get the energy to grow and survive?

Plants can't exactly cook or go to a grocery store or restaurant as human beings do. And, plants can't hunt their prey or graze on plants like most animals do. Plants are able to grow thanks to the process of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process a plant uses to combine sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to produce oxygen and sugar (energy).

In this lesson, you will investigate the speed of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis takes place in a part of the plant called chloroplasts. Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll, which is a green pigment that allows the plant to absorb sunlight.
